Advocacy Spotlight: Windsor & Area Branch invites MP to AGM

Spotlight on the Windsor & Area Branch!
Irek Kusmierczyk, MP for Windsor—Tecumseh, joined the Association’s Windsor & Area Branch to discuss advocacy priorities.

Member of Parliament Irek Kusmierczyk (Windsor—Tecumseh) spoke to the National Association of Federal Retirees Windsor & Area Branch members at their annual general meeting (AGM) on April 12, 2023.

Daniel Hebert, Windsor & Area Branch president, invited Kusmierczyk to attend their AGM to involve members in advocacy by providing them an opportunity to meet their MP. The Windsor & Area Branch is working hard to support the Association’s Reach 338 network, aiming to raise awareness of the issues impacting federal retirees, older adults and their loved ones.

Members asked Kusmierczyk questions about Federal Retirees priorities using the Questions to ask your MP advocacy guide. This handy document was created at the request of Sharon McGovern, advocacy program officer (APO) for western Ontario in preparation for this meeting, to provide a starting point for members to begin discussions with their MP.

“A lot of people don’t know what to ask, so if there is a set of questions on the priorities and they read them they just might be inclined to ask one of them,” says McGovern.

During the meeting, members asked Kusmierczyk tough questions on health care, long-term care, a national seniors strategy and pensions.

Questions to ask your MP is available in the Federal Retirees Reach 338 toolkit, for any member to use when speaking with their MP. This document can be easily viewed online or printed and includes questions to ask your MP on all four Federal Retiree priorities retirement security, national seniors strategy, veteran well-being and pharmacare.
