The Colchester-East Hants Branch hosted a Christmas Dinner on Dec. 14 at the RCAF Association Wing in Truro. Our speaker was Colonel (Ret’d) Nishika Jardine, Veterans Ombud. She served almost 37 years as an officer in the Corps of Royal Canadian Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (RCEME) and held various other positions before joining the Office of the Veterans Ombud. Colonel (Ret’d) Jardine explained that her Office reviews complaints, and challenges the policies and decisions of Veterans Affairs Canada where individual or systemic unfairness is found. They strive to be an independent and respected voice for fairness and a champion for the well-being of Veterans and their families. After a very informative talk, Colonel (Ret’d) Jardine presented a Veterans Ombud Commendation to one of our members, Allan Wellwood for his advocacy role with the National Association of Federal Retirees.
This was followed by a delicious turkey dinner prepared by volunteers at the RCAF Wing. Gordon Tucker, a local musician, entertained during the meal and at social time after. A few of our members and our Ombud got up on the dance floor to work off some of that turkey.
Our event was informative, entertaining, and enjoyed by all. Thanks to those who made it happen. Here are some pictures of the event.
