Lisa Lovis
President – Thunder Bay & Area Branch
My 37-year career with the public service was primarily in the field of compensation and benefits.
I started in Thunder Bay with CEIC/CEC/HRDC…etc. I became very involved in a national training package for new compensation advisors and as such was invited to Toronto on a travel status for 16 months. During this period I had an opportunity to teach with Treasury Board for the Canada School of Public Service in Gatineau. I competed for manager – compensation and benefits with Industry Canada, Toronto and permanently relocated for 10 years.
When I returned to Thunder Bay, I joined the Association as I have a strong passion for our public service pension/benefits. I have been with the board now in various positions for eight years. My family inclusive of four beautiful grandchildren is my heart! I love travel and gardening.
Wanda Young
Past President
As past president, I hold a non-voting position with our branch board. My passion is seniors' issues, and in particular, long-term care. I also volunteer on our advocacy team.
Walter Warywoda
Vice-President
After a 23 year career in the public service, which concluded as a team leader with Canada Revenue Agency, I joined the National Association of Federal Retirees and have served on the board of our local branch since 2016. I served our members as treasurer for over six years, and currently serve as branch vice president. The camaraderie of volunteering with our board and helping to advocate for our members' benefits are some of the rewards that this volunteer role offers.
Charlie Rose
Treasurer
I retired after concluding thirty years with the Canada Revenue Agency. I was fortunate to meet and work with talented groups of professionals in the audit, appeals, and collections program areas. I joined the National Association of Federal Retirees a little over a year ago. Most recently I have accepted the treasurer position with the Thunder Bay & Area Branch board. I look forward to working with the board and learning more about the association going forward. Did you know that because of Federal Retirees' advocacy efforts, we have today what is called the Pensioners’ Dental Services Plan? You can also thank the Association for your indexed pension plan, their lobbying ensured continuing indexing when the government was proposing de-indexing our pension. For this reason, I plan to actively participate in the Association as a strong advocate of pensioners’ rights and maintain and improve benefits for all pensioners.
Lindsay Niven
Secretary
I retired from a job I truly enjoyed with Transport Canada. I joined the Federal Retirees branch in Thunder Bay because I feel there is a need for advocacy. As retired public servants, we need to have our voice and ideas heard.
Al Cheetham
Director
After 26 years of serving in Transport Canada (aviation), I retired. It has been a privilege and a rewarding time to be a servant with the Public Service of Canada. Even prior to retiring I became a member of the Federal Retirees in Thunder Bay, and am now a volunteer on the board. This organization is a vital infer structure to all those who are members of the public service who are retired, and those who are close to retirement.
Ron Green
Director
I have been with the board in various capacities since 2006. It's a rewarding experience meeting with fellow board members and people across the province and Canada. We need volunteers from all levels of the government to ensure the best representation for our special situation in the north. Please consider helping us out. Talk to any board member about their experience on the board. We need your expertise!
Judith Monteith-Farrell
Director
I worked at the Canada Employment and Immigration Commission for 14 years before becoming a full time representative of the PSAC working across many federal departments. I then served as MPP for Thunder Bay Atikokan for one term. I am also receiving survivor benefits from my spouse’s federal service. I wish to serve the organization in advocacy and outreach.
